Languages of ancient people tell a great amount about the civilizations that spoke them. The world's earliest languages include Sumerian cuneiform, Egyptian hieroglyphics, and the Phoenician language. Throughout human existence, language has evolved from simple pictographs and symbols to elaborate letter patterns. Studying the languages of millennia past gives us a glimpse into the lives of humans who lived before us, and helps us understand the impact they have left on society.
